Al-Barari Organization Warns Against Rising Curlew Hunting Despite Ban

Al-Barari Nature Conservation Organization has issued a warning regarding the intensifying hunting of the Stone Curlew across various regions. The organization noted that the use of birds of prey, air rifles, and shotguns is exerting excessive pressure on the species, severely threatening its ability to recover naturally in the wild.

The organization highlighted that the Curlew’s low reproductive rate means that any significant depletion within a single season will have a direct negative impact on population stability in subsequent years. As large-scale hunting trips become more frequent, the critical balance between hunting and the species’ regenerative capacity is increasingly compromised, necessitating full compliance with environmental regulations.

This warning aligns with Decree No. 11 of 2025 issued by the Libyan Authority for Heritage and Wildlife, which prohibits Curlew hunting throughout Libya from February 1st to September 1st annually. This measure aims to protect the species during the most sensitive phases of its life cycle. The organization emphasized that respecting closed seasons and practicing responsible hunting are essential steps toward preserving the Stone Curlew and ensuring its sustainability for future generations.
