The National Committee for Prison Affairs, headed by Counselor Ibrahim Bushnaf, has commenced the release of several inmates acquitted by courts or granted judicial release orders, acting on directives from Lieutenant General Saddam Haftar, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. This operation, which began last night, represents a move toward addressing the legal status of detainees and ensuring strict adherence to judicial mandates within the penal system.
The committee confirmed that the releases are being executed following the completion of all necessary legal and precautionary protocols, with work continuing throughout the day to finalize remaining judicial orders. This initiative is part of a broader effort to uphold the rule of law and protect individual rights. It aligns with the government’s ongoing strategy to reform prison conditions, following Prime Minister Osama Hammad’s decision last December to establish a temporary committee dedicated to monitoring inmate welfare and ensuring humanitarian and legal compliance.
