Marking the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), in coordination with the Libyan Red Crescent and the Libyan Mine Action Centre, reaffirmed their commitment to saving lives and fostering peace. This collaboration focuses on strengthening educational activities regarding the dangers of mines and explosive remnants of war (ERW). The organizations emphasized that awareness-raising is an investment in the safety and long-term stability of affected regions.
The participating entities highlighted that war remnants do not only pose a continuous daily threat to lives but also hinder post-war reconstruction efforts and restrict vital humanitarian operations, further exacerbating the country’s humanitarian challenges. These initiatives seek to empower local communities by imparting essential knowledge and promoting safe behaviors to mitigate risks. By doing so, they aim to protect civilians and create a safer environment conducive to recovery and lasting peace.
