Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Council, Abdullah Al-Lafi, conducted an official visit to Japan at the invitation of its Foreign Minister, Hayashi Yoshimasa.
During the visit, from January 20th to 24th, Al-Lafi headed a high-level delegation, holding discussions with Japanese officials focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation in various fields.
Both sides emphasized the importance of supporting stability and peace in Libya, stressing the need to resolve the current political crisis through a purely Libyan process that enjoys effective international support.
Japanese Foreign Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa praised the role of the Libyan Presidential Council in achieving milestones in the national reconciliation.
He affirmed Japan’s readiness to provide support to Libya in environmental protection and climate change, benefiting from its pioneering experience in this field.
Deputy Chairman Al-Lafi also held a meeting with the Japanese Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare, Takamaro Fukuoka.
The meeting explored ways to enhance cooperation in the medical field. Both sides agreed to form a joint committee of specialized experts to study Libya’s needs in this sector.
On the sidelines of his visit, Al-Lafi chaired the first round of the Libyan-Japanese roundtable, held at the headquarters of the Institute of Energy Economics, Japan (IEEJ). The meeting was attended by a group of Japanese experts and researchers interested in Libyan affairs.
The meeting, which focused on ways to build peace in Libya, was also attended by the Special Representative of the Japanese Government for Peace in the Middle East and Europe, Toksa Imura, who affirmed his country’s support for efforts to achieve stability in Libya.
