A recent report by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) revealed a notable increase in the number of African migrants residing in Libya, reaching 824,131 migrants representing 47 different nationalities and distributed across 100 municipalities.
The report indicated that this figure represents a 5% increase compared to previous data, reflecting an escalation in migration flows to Libya.
The organization clarified that this rise is particularly concentrated in the eastern coastal regions and western areas of Libya due to the availability of better employment opportunities in vital sectors such as construction, trade, and agriculture.
In a related context, the IOM reported that the majority of migrants, approximately 76%, intend to settle in Libya, while 16% plan to continue their journey to other destinations, primarily in Europe.
