The Advisory Committee, formed under the auspices of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), concluded its deliberations last Thursday, announcing that its members had reached shared understandings that materialized into a set of final options and recommendations. These recommendations were specifically crafted to overcome obstacles and address the core contentious issues debatable in the Libyan electoral framework.
The final touches are being applied to the concluding report, and its final draft is being prepared for public release and dissemination. In this context, UNSMIL reiterated its commitment to absolute transparency, declaring its intention to publish all the recommendations that emerged from the Advisory Committee’s deliberations within the coming few days. This step represents a significant link in the chain of efforts undertaken by UNSMIL to foster national consensus among the various Libyan parties. It also seeks to create a solid and applicable technical and legal environment, thereby paving the way for progress towards organizing a comprehensive electoral process characterized by integrity and transparency at all its stages within Libya.
