Public Prosecutor Orders Detention of Education Minister and Curriculum Centre Director for Investigation

The Public Prosecution Office has issued an order to place both the interim Minister of Education in the Government of National Unity and the Director-General of the Educational Research and Curricula Center in custody pending further investigation.
This measure follows an inquiry into the contractual procedures for printing school textbooks designated for the 2025/2026 academic year. Investigations conducted by the Attorney General’s office revealed patterns of administrative and financial misconduct related to signed contracts.
Furthermore, the charges include negligence in ensuring the provision of necessary school books for approximately two million students. This failure resulted in the textbooks not being delivered within the timeframe stipulated by the official educational strategy. The prosecutor noted that the decision to detain the officials was necessitated by the harm caused to the public interest and the violation of students’ right to education, thereby requiring their detention until all legal procedures and inquiries are fully concluded.
