Inas Harraq, the coordinator of Hannibal Gaddafi’s legal team, confirmed that the release order issued by the Lebanese authorities for her client remains valid, though he is still in custody pending the finalisation of financial guarantee procedures. Speaking to Libya Al-Ahrar channel from Beirut, Harraq explained that the financial bond, which was previously set at $10 million, has been reduced to a security-for-appearance bond valued at approximately $900,000 (equivalent to roughly 80 billion Lebanese Lira).
The legal coordinator indicated that “the path to freedom has been opened,” anticipating that the release will be executed immediately upon payment of the amount and completion of all necessary procedures, likely early next week. Harraq stressed that the team is working diligently to secure the bail amount, affirming: “We will not allow the bond to be an obstacle to Hannibal’s release after all these years of detention.”
Harraq maintained that the decision signifies “the realisation of justice after more than ten years of injustice.” She clarified that Hannibal Gaddafi is not accused in any standing case, and his detention was tied to the politically sensitive file of the disappearance of Imam Musa Sadr, which she described as a separate political matter from her client’s legal situation.
Furthermore, Harraq suggested that the timing of the recent visit by a Libyan delegation to Beirut and the associated exchange of legal documents constituted a “positive factor that contributed to accelerating the release process.” She concluded by confirming that the legal team will continue monitoring all steps until his departure, noting that Hannibal Gaddafi’s destination after his release will remain confidential to ensure his personal safety and security.
