Member of the High Council of State Amina Al‑Mahjoub announced ongoing consultations with several members of the House of Representatives who are keen to move forward with appointing the Electoral Commission Council, as part of efforts to break the political deadlock and advance the electoral process.
Al‑Mahjoub stressed that the purpose of these efforts is to establish a clear path leading to the ballot boxes, emphasizing the need to overcome political divisions and place national interest at the forefront.
She explained that the next stage, should consensus be reached among the parties, requires a decisive step—namely, the appointment of a President for the Electoral Commission. She described this as essential to creating the conditions necessary for holding parliamentary and presidential elections and ending successive transitional phases.
Regarding the constitutional track, Al‑Mahjoub affirmed that the body that drafted the constitution was elected by the people rather than appointed, and therefore, in her view, there is no need for a referendum on it. She argued that this could help accelerate the path toward a comprehensive political settlement.
