Security Operation in Southeastern Libya Leads to Seizure of Vehicles and Weapons

A unit from the Illegal Migration Control Department (IMCD) successfully executed a targeted security operation in the southeastern desert region, resulting in the seizure of three four-wheel-drive vehicles and a significant cache of weapons and ammunition. The operation took place in a remote area near the shared borders of Libya, Egypt, and Sudan. This mission followed strategic directives from Major General Salah Mahmoud al-Khafeefi, head of the IMCD, to intensify desert patrols and enhance security presence to combat smuggling activities. The operation was conducted under the direct supervision of Major General Ezzzedine Bushah, Director of the Desert Patrols Department.

According to reports, the force of the Southeastern branch, acting on orders from Brigadier General Zakaria Badr, intercepted three Toyota vehicles specifically modified for navigating difficult desert terrain. Upon searching the seized vehicles, the unit discovered a variety of weaponry, including two Kalashnikov assault rifles, 259 9mm handguns, and a shotgun. In addition, the force confiscated a large quantity of ammunition, totaling 11,750 shotgun cartridges. This is part of ongoing efforts to bolster security and disrupt organized crime networks in desert zones. These regions are frequently exploited by smuggling syndicates as transit routes across borders, making such proactive patrols essential for maintaining national and regional stability.
