Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, officially reactivated the headquarters of the Community of Sahel-Saharan States (CEN-SAD) in Tripoli this Saturday. The event, attended by 11 foreign ministers, marks a strategic move to revive joint regional action after a years-long interruption.

In his address, Dbeibeh welcomed the organization’s return to its Tripoli base, affirming his government’s commitment to providing full support for its operations. He noted that this step enhances cooperation, stability, and development tracks across the Sahel-Saharan region and strengthens overall African coordination mechanisms.
The ceremony featured delegations representing Sudan, Niger, Tunisia, Senegal, Mali, Nigeria, Gambia, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Central African Republic, Djibouti, Eritrea, Guinea-Bissau, and Ghana. underscoring significant political momentum for resuming the organization’s activities from its primary headquarters in the Libyan capital.
Established in 1998 in Tripoli, CEN-SAD is a prominent African regional organization comprising 25 member states. It focuses on boosting economic and security cooperation, and its reactivation aims to restore its role in managing regional interests and stability.
