The Speaker of the Egyptian House of Representatives, Counselor Hisham Badawy, announced the parliament’s endorsement of Counselor Aguila Saleh’s candidacy for the presidency of the Afro-Asian Parliament, expressing readiness to participate in the upcoming conference scheduled for June in Benghazi.
Badawy reaffirmed Egypt’s unwavering commitment—across its leadership, people, parliament, and government—to safeguarding Libya’s sovereignty, unity, and stability as a fundamental cornerstone of Arab national security.
On the parliamentary front, Badawy emphasized the vital role of joint cooperation between the two legislative bodies, characterising the visit of his Libyan counterpart as an important step toward exchanging legislative expertise and fostering mutual development. He asserted the Egyptian House of Representatives’ full readiness to extend all forms of support to the Libyan Parliament, facilitating sustainable institutional coordination to help it fulfill its national mandates and navigate regional and international challenges to serve the mutual interests of both nations.
Regarding the political landscape, Badawy explained that Cairo is deploying its full diplomatic weight to support its Libyan brothers by advancing political solutions rooted strictly in an independent Libyan will, free from external interventions that spark escalation and obstruct settlements. He pointed out that the strategic steps taken by President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi have established a clear and consistent Egyptian policy centered on upholding Libyan territorial integrity, protecting national institutions, and counteracting threats to the Libyan people’s resources.
The Egyptian Speaker maintained that Libya’s stability and security represent an organic component of Egyptian and Arab national security, noting that any threat to Libyan unity directly compromises the wider region’s safety, which explains Cairo’s steadfast position. Addressing the plenary session, Badawy described the bilateral ties as an existential bond of blood and shared destiny that transcends conventional strategic relations, adding that Counselor Aguila Saleh’s visit embodies the deep-seated historical, human, social, and cultural ties uniting the two brotherly nations.
