Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dabaiba, hosted writer Siraj Houidi and director Osama Rezg on Sunday to honour them after their cinematic piece “Ascent” secured the Best African Film award. The accolade was presented by the Pan-African Federation of Filmmakers (FEPACI) during the Khouribga International African Film Festival in Morocco, with the Director of the Cinema Centre, Mustafa al-Karmaji, in attendance.
Dabaiba lauded the triumph as a watershed moment for Libyan cinema, stating that the achievement showcases the maturity of the nation’s visual narrative and its capacity to articulate historical and contemporary realities through an artistic lens that resonates with regional and global audiences.
Concluding the reception, Dabaiba reaffirmed the state’s commitment to providing structured institutional backing for Libyan arts, stressing that such support is vital to sustaining creative productions that safeguard and elevate the national identity.
