Foreign ministers of the signatory states—including Egypt, Algeria, Libya, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Iran, Nigeria, and Somalia—alongside the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Gulf Cooperation Council, declared that Israel’s recognition of the “Somaliland” region constitutes a flagrant violation of international law and the UN Charter, which explicitly upholds the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states. They described the move as a clear disregard for international legitimacy.
The statement warned of the grave consequences of this step for peace and security in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea, as well as its broader impact on international stability.
The signatories reaffirmed their full support for the sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Somalia and rejected any measures that could undermine its unity, territorial integrity, or authority over its lands. They stressed that recognizing the independence of parts of sovereign states sets a dangerous precedent and poses a direct threat to the established principles of the international order.
The statement also reiterated categorical rejection of any attempts to link this recognition to schemes aimed at displacing the Palestinian people from their homeland, stressing that such plans are unacceptable in both form and substance and cannot be tolerated under any pretext.
Finally, Libya and the participating states announced their outright rejection of the Israeli Occupation’s declaration recognizing Somaliland, which lies within the territory of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
