The talks focused heavily on border security, irregular migration, and several regional issues of mutual concern.

This meeting took place on the sidelines of the official reopening of the Community of Sahel-Saharan States (CEN-SAD) headquarters in Tripoli. It provided a key opportunity to exchange views on regional challenges and establish joint mechanisms to address them amidst the shifting dynamics of the area. This dialogue is seen as a strategic step toward strengthening regional coordination and documenting shared security outcomes to support more effective cross-border policies.

Border Security and Field Coordination

The security of shared borders topped the agenda, with both sides emphasizing the need to increase coordination between specialized agencies to curb illegal activities. The two officials affirmed that regional stability requires a unified approach based on information sharing and direct field coordination. They also highlighted the importance of regulating border movements to balance security requirements with the daily needs of populations living in border regions.

Addressing Irregular Migration

The issue of irregular migration received significant attention during the discussions. Al-Zadma and Sangaré explored ways to tackle this phenomenon, which remains one of the most pressing challenges in the region. They stressed the importance of joint action to address the root causes of migration while implementing practical measures to reduce flows through illegal routes. Furthermore, they underscored the necessity of coordinating with international partners to ensure a comprehensive framework that addresses both security and humanitarian dimensions.

Bilateral Prospects and the Role of CEN-SAD

The meeting also delved into expanding bilateral ties in various sectors, including economic cooperation and trade exchange. Both parties expressed a mutual desire to build a more balanced and stable relationship and stressed the importance of continued high-level meetings to follow up on agreed objectives.

The talks highlighted the revitalized role of the Community of Sahel-Saharan States as a vital platform for regional coordination against terrorism and organized crime. By adopting a collective regional approach, both Libya and Niger aim to respond more effectively to complex cross-border challenges, utilizing shared regional experiences to develop more accurate future strategies
