The ٍSalam Center in Benghazi hosted the new Italian Consul, Filippo Colombo, for an official visit focused on engaging with local institutions and reviewing the center’s ongoing initiatives. The Consul was received by the center’s Director General, Dr. Faraj Najm, and Mr. Issa Abdul Qayyum, who accompanied him throughout his tour of the city’s historical landmarks.
A significant portion of the visit was dedicated to honoring Libya’s national struggle, as the Consul laid a wreath at the tomb of the “Lion of the Desert,” Omar al-Mukhtar. The itinerary also included a tour of the Omar al-Mukhtar Library, where the Consul viewed a collection of photographs and historical documents detailing the phases of Libyan resistance against Italian colonial rule.
To conclude the visit, the Salam Center presented the Italian Consul with commemorative gifts, including a medallion bearing al-Mukhtar’s name and several books documenting that phase of Libyan history. The gesture aimed to emphasize the importance of national memory and ensure that international visitors gain a clear understanding of Libya’s historical legacy.
