MP Hana al-Deeb: Armed Clashes Directly Impact Citizens and Vital Infrastructure

07

House of Representatives member Hana al-Deeb has pointed out that armed confrontations inflict a direct toll on civilian life and strategic state facilities, highlighting the closure of the Zawiya oil refinery as a prime example, given its critical economic and service-related significance to the daily livelihood and stability of Libyan citizens.

Meanwhile, al-Deeb urged the United Nations mission to adopt a more proactive and decisive approach in supporting de-escalation efforts, bridging gaps between rival factions, and exerting real pressure to ensure adherence to existing agreements, thereby guaranteeing civilian protection and paving the way for a comprehensive, lasting political settlement that preserves Libya’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Speaking to “Almanassa”, the lawmaker reiterated that a continuous reliance on military force to settle disputes only exacerbates public suffering and deepens the ongoing crisis. She stressed that the ceasefire agreement must serve as a binding and genuine benchmark for all parties, functioning not merely as a temporary measure to contain tensions, but as a fundamental step toward restoring the rule of law and consolidating state authority.

Al-Deeb concluded by emphasizing the importance of prioritizing rational dialogue and keeping all sovereign and service institutions entirely insulated from current conflicts and political rivalries, aimed at safeguarding the resources of the Libyan people and averting any severe repercussions that could further compromise the national economy and human conditions.
