The National Safety Department in al-Jufra has declared a state of high alert across its units to combat potential fires triggered by a severe heatwave, with temperatures soaring to nearly 44°C during peak afternoon hours.
Brigadier General Abubakar al-Amin, head of the l-Jufra National Safety Department, confirmed that emergency response stations in Hun, Sokna, Waddan, Zella, and al-Fogha are fully prepared to receive distress calls and deploy immediately to contain any fire incidents exacerbated by the current atmospheric conditions.
Al-Amin strongly urged farmers to refrain from open burning in agricultural lands, while emphasizing that commercial establishments and fueling stations must strictly comply with safety regulations by maintaining operational fire extinguishers and safety gear on-site.
He noted that temperatures surpassed 43°C as early as midday, calling on local residents to exercise extreme caution and adhere to preventative measures to safeguard public safety.
