Al-Sharif: How Will Citizens Meet Their Needs After Spending Months of Salaries on Eid Sacrifice?

08

Economics professor Ali al-Sharif criticized the harsh impact of skyrocketing prices on low-income families in a commentary posted to his personal Facebook page.

Al-Sharif pointed out that buying a sacrificial animal now forces vulnerable citizens to exhaust up to two or three months of their income, questioning how ordinary Libyans can possibly manage their subsequent household expenses under such financial strain.

He added that while faith in divine provision remains unwavering, it must not overshadow the urgent need to support the impoverished. He noted that their numbers have surged during recent difficult years, blaming systemic corruption, embezzlement of public funds, a proliferation of rival authorities, and inflated government spending for shifting the heaviest economic burdens onto everyday citizens.
