United Kingdom Receives Black Box of Crashed Libyan Aircraft for Data Retrieval and Analysis

Investigations into the crash of the Libyan Falcon 50 aircraft began immediately under the supervision of Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah, with a commitment to transparency, professionalism, and respect for the rights of victims’ families and the public’s right to know the circumstances of the incident. The Prime Minister instructed the relevant authorities to take all necessary measures to support the investigation process and ensure its impartiality, in coordination with specialized international partners to safeguard civil aviation safety.

The Ministry of Transport explained that it has been involved from the outset in gathering information in coordination with the concerned authorities, Turkish officials, and delegations from other relevant countries, providing all necessary facilities to support the investigation.

In this context, the ministry announced that British authorities had agreed to receive the aircraft’s black box for data retrieval and analysis of the flight recorders, after German authorities were unable to carry out the task. The choice of the United Kingdom was made in line with international standards to ensure the highest levels of technical integrity and professional neutrality.

As part of the process, the Minister of Transport met with the British ambassador to Libya to discuss technical and procedural aspects, in coordination with the Turkish Minister of Transport, to support the investigation and uncover the causes of the crash.

The government emphasized that these steps aim to reveal the full truth and keep the public informed of developments once the final results are available, in the investigation into the accident that claimed the lives of Western Region Army Chief of Staff, General Mohamed al‑Haddad, and several of his companions.
