On the sidelines of the 152nd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) General Assembly in Istanbul, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Counselor Aguila Saleh, held a meeting last Wednesday with the Speaker of the Arab Parliament, Mohammed bin Ahmed Al-Yamahi. The discussions focused on exploring methods to advance bilateral cooperation and aligning stances regarding the latest regional and international developments of mutual concern.
Both officials emphasized the vital importance of joint action within international parliamentary frameworks to ensure the Arab voice is heard and its causes are defended through unified positions that reflect shared interests, particularly in light of current challenges that necessitate effective parliamentary integration to bolster political dialogue and stability.
During the session, Counselor Aguila Saleh commended the pivotal role played by the Arab Parliament in strengthening ties between national parliaments and adopting initiatives that enhance legislative performance, viewing this partnership as a pillar for supporting the political process in Libya.
For his part, the Speaker of the Arab Parliament reaffirmed the organization’s full commitment to supporting all efforts aimed at consolidating security and stability in Libya, noting that a unified and resilient Libya constitutes a significant asset to the Arab system and a fundamental element of Arab national security due to its strategic location.
Concurrently, a high-level delegation from the House of Representatives continues its participation in the IPU meetings, including First Deputy Fawzi Al-Nuwairi and Members: Abdul Salam Nassia, Sultana Al-Mismari, Rabia Abu Ras, and Fatima Al-Swayei, along with Ahlam Al-Lafi, who participated as part of the Arab Parliament’s delegation. This participation underscores the Council’s commitment to solidifying the Libyan presence in international forums and establishing broad parliamentary partnerships that serve national interests.
