The Director-General of the Libya Development and Reconstruction Fund, Engineer Belgasem Haftar, has announced that the reconstruction of the Sabri district and Benghazi’s city centre is set to commence this coming June. This milestone follows the successful completion of exhaustive technical assessments and comprehensive damage surveys conducted across these key urban areas.
Speaking at a broad meeting with reconstruction and compensation committees, the Director-General emphasized a phased implementation methodology prioritized on high-quality delivery. He underscored that protecting both private and public property remains a top priority throughout the project’s execution. Furthermore, he noted that the restoration process requires meticulous planning and sufficient time to integrate modern infrastructure while strictly preserving the historical and cultural identity of Benghazi’s heritage sites.
Regarding the compensation file, the fund confirmed that disbursements will initiate immediately upon the finalization of the assessment data. Engineer Belgasem Haftar stated that the process would adhere to strict standards of transparency and fairness, ensuring all affected citizens are justly compensated, thereby supporting the broader mission of urban renewal and social stability within the municipality.
