According to reports from the Times of Malta, discussions with the Home Affairs Minister centered on strengthening the robust bilateral ties and maintaining effective coordination across various sectors, particularly regarding vital security issues. The talks covered intelligence-sharing mechanisms, combating organized crime, and intensifying joint efforts to manage illegal migration flows. The Maltese side characterized these matters as essential for the stability of the Central Mediterranean and Southern Europe, serving the mutual interests of both nations and the broader region.
The Maltese delegation included Armed Forces Commander Clinton J. O’Neill, Head of Security Services Joe Bugeja, and Ambassador Malcolm Cutajar. In a parallel diplomatic track, General Saddam Haftar met with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ian Borg to review the latest developments in Libya and explore further opportunities for partnership between the neighboring countries.
