Member of the House of Representatives, Mohamed al-Abbany, asserted that Libya’s stability remains unattainable as long as armed factions maintain their grip on power through force. Speaking to Almanassa, he emphasized that the proliferation of weapons prevents the establishment of a functional state and hinders any government from pursuing economic revitalization or development across various sectors, ultimately depriving citizens of a peaceful life.
Al-Abbany pointed the finger at the UN Security Council, arguing that its 2011 intervention dismantled the national army and paved the way for armed groups to seize political, economic, and security influence. He maintained that the Libyan crisis can only be resolved by ensuring that the state military holds the monopoly on force. Without consolidating arms under a single national institution, he warned, the country will continue to struggle with insecurity and the absence of a unified sovereign authority.
