Quietness prevailed over the livestock markets in Tripoli just before Eid al-Adha, as public turnout appeared weak and below the levels of previous years due to clear fluctuations and a noticeable rise in prices.
In an exclusive interview with a livestock breeder arriving from Zamzam region, he mentioned that the high cost of fodder, shipping, and breeding is the primary driver behind this season’s price surge, noting that purchasing power has not yet reached the hoped-for level, while hopes remain pinned on a rebound in trading at the very last moments.
A field tour along the sales platforms revealed contrasting reactions, as consumers expressed their helplessness in the face of the current high costs, which led most of them to settle for merely asking about prices or postponing the decision, waiting to see what the next few days will bring amid a living crisis pressuring everyone.
