During a press conference held in Zliten, the Land Convoy announced its latest updates and upcoming steps for its humanitarian journey toward the Rafah crossing to support Gaza Strip, with the participation of late South African leader Mandla Mandela and several international activists. The convoy comprises around 300 participants from over 30 countries spanning from North to South Africa, forming a global movement aimed at breaking the blockade and delivering humanitarian aid.
In his remarks, Mandela’s grandson—who previously joined the “Freedom Flotilla”—explained that South Africans deeply understand the value of international solidarity, having benefited from it during their struggle against the apartheid regime, and reaffirmed his country’s commitment to defending oppressed peoples worldwide. Evoking his grandfather’s legacy, he stated that Mandela regarded the Palestinian cause as “the greatest moral question of our time” and would have urged the world to take action and isolate the Israeli Occupation internationally to end this suffering.
For their part, speakers at the conference warned of the unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe engulfing Gaza due to the ongoing war and siege, which has resulted in tens of thousands of casualties and left children orphaned. Mandela’s grandson noted that this overland convoy serves as an extension of the maritime initiatives he has supported since 2024 to highlight the daily plight of Palestinians and halt genocide and ethnic cleansing, calling on supporters worldwide to join these humanitarian efforts.
